Since 1994, Propur is also involved in the potatoe sowing business thanks to its affiliation with " Les Semences Saguenoises inc. ". They specialize in the production of basic sowing starting with fast multiplication methods of " in vitro plants ". Petit Saguenay being the location of " Les Semences Saguenoises inc. " they are, therefore, isolated from the potatoe commercial production centres.

In collaboration with " Les Semences Saguenoises inc", Propur is busy developing new varieties of potatoes. At present we are one of the few enterprises in the province to have that many varieties : Superior, Gold Rush, Snowden, Atlantic, Shepody, Eramosa, Belmont, etc.

Each year, we invest in a Research and Development program. This program does not only serve to obtain new varieties but it is also used to improve all of our products.

" Les Semences Saguenoises inc. " has its own " in vitro " laboratory ensuring, this way, a phytosanitary control.

Several multiplication steps are necessary before marketing the sowing batches. Actually, it takes four to seven years for those batches to attain maturity.  See: multiplication steps.

Today, the researches undertaken by Propur have for objective to offer to producers of potatoes younger tubercles which means better quality. It also means that those sowings could be better equipped to fight diseases and, by the same token, would offer characteristics that are more advantageous.
